Description
Summary:In Pews, Prayers, and Participation, Corwin Smidt and his colleagues undertake an ambitious project: to explore the “variety of ways in which religious people in the United States give expression to their civic responsibilities” (1). They intend to push beyond the conventional assessments of the cross-section between religion and political involvement to understand more fully the multiple ways in which “civic responsibility” or civic engagement brushes the lives of religious Americans. The thrust of their argument is that religion is a critically important factor in enhancing the vibrancy of American civic life.
