Descrição
Resumo:The article reviews the encyclical letter "Ut unum sint" (25 March 1995). In a first part it points out the ambivalent reception of this document in the ecumenical discussion. The opinion of the pope, that the ecumenical movement has brought the Roman-Catholic Church to a point of no return, is underlined. The review points out the ecumenical views of the pope, his demands for help, but does not discuss the way in which the pope's ministry is handled. In a second part an overall picture is offered of the ecclesiastical opinions, defended by this document, like religious liberty, truths outside the church. Questions of the Protestant churches, especially the function of the "magisterium", the sacraments, ministry and the papal primacy are dealt with too. At the end the new aspects of the encyclical letter are shown, for example the ecumenical importance of the concept "martyria" (witnessing), the importance of Luther's "theologia cruris" and the emphasis on the importance of a dialogue for the ecumenical discussion. Above all the importance of this writing for the ecumenical dialogue is pointed out.
