Summary: | In his study the author first gives us a detailed summary of the admission of Böhmische Brüder's songs into the music of the evangelic Church in German speaking areas, as from the reformation to present time. He then thoroughly examines an Easter song by Michael Weisse as paradigm for reception and transformation of late medieval texts and melodies in the works of the Böhmische Brüder. Accordingly one can see that Weisse has adopted the melodies passed on from an earlier Halleluja trope, the popular Easter processional chant „Cum rex gloria”. Maintaining the dramatic pictures of Jesus' Easter victory according to the Apostolicum's descensus motiv, places the bold message of faith close to the iconographically documented Easter theology of the Eastern church. |
