This paper examines the various aspects of this restoration : the rebuilding of the cloister, the economic reorganization, the consolidation of the community through the writing of several works on the history of the monastery, the implementation of the Observance with the support of normative and ad hoc texts, the resumption of the manuscript production stimulated by the Modern Devotion, the involvement of the community in several reformation networks (such as the Benedictine abbeys of the ecclesiastical Province’s or the reformed Cistercian monasteries’ ones). Despite the lack of information, the Florennes case contributes to shed light on the holistic nature of the reform. The case also reveals the importance of literacy in such reform processes. | ||
| 520 | |a Ravagée par les troupes du comte de Hainaut en 1408, l’abbaye de Florennes se redressa dans les décennies qui suivirent, grâce à l’aide de religieux venus du monastère de Saint-Jacques à Liège, pour devenir un centre réformateur actif dans les Pays-Bas méridionaux. Ce sont les différentes facettes de cette restauration qu’examine l’article : reconstruction des bâtiments claustraux et, plus largement, la reprise en mains de la gestion économique de l’abbaye ; renforcement de la cohésion de la communauté, à travers la composition ou la commande de plusieurs opuscules liés à l’histoire de l’institution ; mise en oeuvre des principes de l’observance, grâce à l’utilisation d’un ensemble de textes normatifs et autres écrits de circonstance ; renouveau de la production de manuscrits, en partie au moins sous l’influence de la devotio moderna ; insertion de la communauté réformée dans plusieurs réseaux réformateurs, notamment celui des abbayes bénédictines de la province de Cologne-Trèves ou celui des monastères cisterciens réformés. Au-delà de la perspective monographique, le dossier florennois contribue ainsi, malgré ses zones d’ombre, à mettre en lumière le caractère « englobant » du programme réformateur, qui imprégnait toutes les dimensions de la vie monastique ; il révèle également le rôle décisif joué par l’écrit dans le processus de réforme, et ce dans tous les secteurs de la vie conventuelle. | ||
