Afrae (BHL 108), a long passion (BHL 109) and a short passion (BHL 107b-f). The version BHL 107b transmitted in manuscript Vienna ÖNB 420 was discovered and edited in 1907 by a Premonstratensian Godefroi Vielhaber. It was re-edited later by Bruno Krusch (who had already published BHL 108 and 109) and finally by Walter Berschin. Vielhaber‘s discovery gave Krusch and consequently the whole scientific community the idea that the brief version was the original form of the text, and BHL 108 and 109 were thus regarded as mere amplifications. However, a return to the manuscripts of the brief version, considered by Bruno Krusch in his edition to be insignificant compendia, as well as a detailed examination of their relationship to the long version, allow us to propose to reverse the classification and to regard the long version as the original one. There is only one doubt remaining concerning the exact nature of the original text : is it the one we know today (BHL 108-109) or was it an earlier, today lost, version, of which 107b-f would then be an abbreviation and BHL 108-109 a rewriting? | ||

Afrae (BHL 108) ; une Passion longue (BHL 109) et une Passion brève (BHL 107b-f). La version BHL 107b, contenue dans le manuscrit Wien, ÖNB 420, a été découverte en 1907 par le Prémontré Godefroi Vielhaber, et éditée par lui-même, puis par Bruno Krusch (qui avait déjà édité BHL 108 et 109), et enfin par Walter Berschin. La découverte de Vielhaber imposa d'abord à Krusch, puis à l'ensemble de la communauté scientifique, l'idée que la version brève était la forme primitive du dossier ; BHL 108 et 109 se voyaient ainsi réduits au statut d‘amplification. Or un retour aux manuscrits de la version brève, que dans sa première édition Bruno Krusch avait considérés comme d'insignifiants compendia, et un examen minutieux de leurs rapports avec la version longue, permettent de proposer l'inversion de ce classement, et de voir dans la version longue l‘état premier du texte. Un seul doute subsiste quant à la nature exacte du texte originel : est-ce celui que nous connaissons actuellement (BHL 108-109), ou une version antérieure aujourd'hui perdue, dont BHL 107b-f serait une abréviation, et BHL 108-109 une réécriture ? | ||
