The growing demand for this type of translation orders in coastal areas, where a large number of foreign residents have settled, has contributed to making it one of the most translated genres.This article discusses the translation of a last will and testament from the state of Florida (USA) with two objectives: first, to analyse the general characteristics of American wills and succession processes of the state in which it happens; and secondly, to identify translation problems encountered while proposing different solutions in order to safeguard the legal effect of the original text and the role to be fulfilled by the translation at the time of receipt. | ||

La creciente demanda de este tipo de encargos de traducción en zonas de costa en las que se han instalado un gran número de residentes extranjeros ha fomentado que sea uno de los géneros que más se traducen en la práctica profesional. El presente artículo aborda la traducción de un testamento procedente del estado de Florida (EE.UU) con un doble objetivo: por un lado, analizar las características generales de los testamentos estadounidenses y del proceso sucesorio del estado en el que acontece; y por otro, identificar los problemas de traducción encontrados y proponer diversas soluciones con el fin de salvaguardar el efecto jurídico del texto original y la función que debe cumplir la traducción en el momento de su recepción. | ||
