| Summary: | This paper seeks to describe the various events that mark the transition from the Reformation to the Catholic Reformation in Valencia. Indeed, the crisis of the seventeenth century in Valencia is presaged by socioeconomic factors such as coastal surveillance after the crisis of the Alpujarras in 1568, with plans for pacification and evangelization leading to the expulsion of the Moors in 1609, and the epidemics and famines of the last two decades of the sixteenth century. The election of Ribera, with a humanist, tolerant and open-minded spirit, signaled the Valencian diocese’s alignment with the Council of Trent, which was eventually broken with the arrival of Isidoro Aliaga. Finally, in what regards cultural life, we witness the financial and academic downturn of the University of Valencia, and the confirmation, with the constitutions of 1611, of the primacy of Thomist scholasticism’s theological knowledge over the empirical sciences. Este trabajo busca describir los diversos hechos que indican el paso de la reforma a la reforma católica en Valencia. Factores socioeconómicos como la vigilancia de costas, tras la crisis de las Alpujarras de 1568, con los planes de pacificación y evangelización que desembocan en la expulsión de los moriscos en 1609 y las epidemias y hambrunas de las dos últimas décadas del siglo XVI, anuncian las características de la crisis del siglo XVII en Valencia. La elección de Ribera supone la adecuación de la diócesis valenciana a Trento, con un talante humanista, tolerante y dialogante, que se romperá con la llegada de Isidoro Aliaga. Finalmente en la vida cultural, asistimos al deterioro financiero y académico de la Universidad de Valencia confirmándose, con las constituciones de 1611, la primacía de los saberes teológicos de la escolástica tomista sobre las ciencias experimentales. |
