Sumario: | While the discipline of 'Church History' in the German academic context largely ignores the reality of World Christianity, there do exist remarkable attempts at a 'History of Christianity in the Non-Western World' or a 'World History of Christianity'. These, nevertheless, mark only the beginnings of a much needed process of historiographical re-orientation. This article discusses various models which might develop global perspectives of the history of Christianity without being restricted to a mere 'bookbinder's synthesis'. It deals with a succession of paradigms drawn from the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries. |
