A chronological survey of synodical statements, as well as declarations by individual Christians, shows that attempts to express guilt were made, especially in the second half of the decade. But a range of significant questions remain to be discussed: guilt and error; the interwovenness of personal and socially-sponsored guilt; God's judgement and his forgiveness; our spiritual recognition of guilt and legally-necessary punishment; selfaccusation and the accusation of others; forms of confessing guilt. Recognition of guilt has to grow, but it will only succeed where the gospel gives strength to forgiveness. | ||
