Summary: | The Shoah as a historical problem of guilt came to the attention of the general populace by means of the American TV-film Holocaust and academic Jewish-Christian conferences in the late 70's. After World War II the protestant churches have went through four phases in relation to the Shoah: moral condemnation of the Shoah 1945-50, focussing on the importance of information on Judaism, the beginning of the dialogue between Jews and Protestants after 1961, the consideration of the Shoah as a challenge to the re-evaluation of the history of theology after 1980. The synod of Bad Neuenahr and its reception shows, that the study of the Shoah leads to central questions of Protestant theology and Christian identity. |
