Description
Summary:This essay deals with both the principles and specifications of the ecclesiology of Dibelius and Barth subsequent to the essay "Quousque tandem...?" At first it points out that for Dibelius the ' independence', and for Barth the 'freedom', of the Church are the most significant factors. The first concept relates to the aspect of the relationship between State and Church; the second concept refers to the antagonism between the Church and the godless powers of this world. The essay then develops the effects which ensue on the understanding of the congregational church ('Volkskirche'), the Confessional Church ('Bekennende Kirche') and the clerical authorities (the office of Bishop, synod). Thus, those problems which were controversially discussed, especially after 1945, are considered. Finally it is pointed out that for Barth and Dibelius, not only the concept of 'Church' is debatable, but that differences are even evident in the initial perception of the doctrine of God.
