They expect that the Christian-Marxist dialogue can be promoted on the basis of that concept of religion. Our contribution examines the concept of religion (III,1), to show that a generally valid definition of religion today is nevertheless impossible because the Polyperspektivität of the phenomen cannot be ignored. The peculiar connection between Christian faith and the concept of religion never permits an adequate picture. The sociology of religion (III,2) developed from efforts to understand foreign cultures. If it applies its methods of inquiry to its own society, it becomes in fact Selbstthematisierung. Then the danger arises of desribing as a product what people certainly can never produce: sense. Kontingenzbewältigung (III,3) as a description of the function of religion reduces the problem of disappointment and consolation, as the Christian experiences them. A Chnstian-Marxist dialogue (III,4) must be pursued on the basis of mutual recognition in the light of the question of truth, and may not be confused with negotiations, in which our convictions are put at the disposal of social utility. | ||
