Pope John Paul II constantly promoted the renewal of the doctrine of natural law, with its fundamental values prior to any social contract, without which an insensitive totalitarianism can dispose of the dignity of persons, beginning with the weakest. The document seeks to update a notion burdened by the suspicion of heteronomy and to recall that the demands of natural law are to be discovered progressively and freely from within personal and collective reason. It is to a "passage to the depths" (John Paul II) that human subjects and societies are invited, where the creative Logos awaits and enlightens them. | ||
