Nevertheless, it has recently come under fire - not because of any intuitive implausibility, but because its foundation lies in thoughtexperiments, and those have been claimed to be an unacceptable methodology. This paper undertakes to defend the distinction by defending thought-experiments against a number of influential attacks. It is argued that those attacks, whether based in semantics or epistemology, are misguided and are a long way from showing the method of thought-experiment to be a mistaken one.
