New sources and theories elevated these topics briefly in the 1990s, followed by a lull until quite recently. Additionally, the centenary of the First World War and associated anti-Jewish violence have also attracted increased attention of late. Elissa Bemporad’s important new book is thus part of a lively and developing scholarly conversation., The novelty of Bemporad’s approach lies in two crucial linkages. First, she treats the focuses of the book—ritual murder and pogroms—as related phenomena. |
