Zusammenfassung:The past few years have seen renewed scholarly interest in the history of pogroms and ritual murder accusations in Europe. New sources and theories elevated these topics briefly in the 1990s, followed by a lull until quite recently. Additionally, the centenary of the First World War and associated anti-Jewish violence have also attracted increased attention of late. Elissa Bemporad’s important new book is thus part of a lively and developing scholarly conversation., The novelty of Bemporad’s approach lies in two crucial linkages. First, she treats the focuses of the book—ritual murder and pogroms—as related phenomena.
