At the same time, however, especially from 1916 on, war weariness and hunger made many Germans blame Jews for the unexpectedly long war, and claim that Jews shirked their military responsibility and profited from the war. More dangerously, in late 1918, the “Stab in the Back” myth circulated widely. | ||
