Summary: | First published in Warsaw in 2009 as Przerwana żałoba: Polskie spory wokół pamięci nazistowskich obozów koncentracyjnych i zagłady 1944–1950, Zofia Wóycicka's rigorous and enlightening study has been published as the second volume in the series edited by Dariusz Stola and Machteld Venken and titled Warsaw Studies in Contemporary History. Arrested Mourning updates the Polish-language version to include scholarship published since 2009, and the rewritten introduction is more succinct. The book is framed primarily as a contribution to scholarship on memory of the Nazi camps, but it also provides a penetrating analysis of the rise of the Communist regime in Poland. |
