Recent scholarship has placed Łódź under particular scrutiny, for two main reasons: first, the available sources are very rich; and second, the case of Łódź is genuinely unusual. Łódź was the last surviving ghetto, liquidated only in August 1944, and the Jewish Council of Elders (Judenrat) managed to make it a complex productive system crucial to the German authorities. | ||
