Description
Summary:I stepped aside to give him an unobstructed view: the black-and-white family photos of Allison and me against a weathered brick wall in Old Pasadena, Henry and Jake slack and smiling in our arms; the Tuscan leather sectional and the hand-knotted rugs; potted palms in the corners of the room and English ivy draping the built-in mahogany bookcases. The doorbell rang as I hung up the phone, and then I heard my father's deep, imposing voice fill our entryway. When I didn't answer, Allison said, "Troy, tell your dad about that car accident outside your office. Allison stared at me, her lips pressed together, and then she turned to my father: "There was a bad car accident outside Troy's office", she said.
