520 |a Three years ago Jewel Spears Brooker, then president of the Conference on Christianity and Literature, asked vice president Jill Peláez Baumgaertner to chair a committee charged with revising the organization's by-laws in order to update the language and to ensure that they describe CCL's current direction and practices. Also serving on this committee were Charles A. Huttar and Robert Snyder. The proposed changes in boldface type reflect the organization's current policies and practices. For example, the section on membership certificates, which CCL no longer issues, has been omitted. The committee has also made the language gender-inclusive throughout the document.Other changes of substance are (1) the rewording of Article I (“Purposes”); (2) the inclusion of student members as full voting members; (3) less specific language describing dues and annual meeting dates; (4) the addition of an annual budget which must be approved by the Board of Directors; and (5) the increase of membership on the Board of Directors from ten to thirteen so that, in addition to the four officers and the two at-large members, each of the seven regions of CCL would have representation. The committee proposes the acceptance of these revised by-laws by the membership of CCL. A ballot is included in this issue of the journal.
