A survey of twenty Christian groups is made, showing in brief compass what each regards as essential. Considerable diversity exists in these statements. The Apostles' Creed, as the most universally accepted formula, is critically examined. It is found that several items in this creed are susceptible of varied interpretation. The conclusion is that no formulation adequately interprets the whole of Christianity. The attempt to require acceptance of a fixed creed leads to unfortunate results for religion.
