Using reliable, validated measures, the 45 participants who completed the study demonstrated moderate medical burden that was significantly associated with physical QOL but not with mental QOL or depression. Irrespective of the level of medical burden, subjects exhibited significant improvement of both depression and QOL during hospitalization. Results suggest that advocacy by spiritual care providers is essential.
