Few played as vital a role in the founding and subsequent shaping of such an institution as did Samuel Miller. Although certainly none would deny Miller's importance to Princeton Theological Seminary, his contributions have often been marginalized in light of some of the other pillars of Princeton Theology such as Archibald Alexander, Charles and A.A. Hodge, B.B. Warfield, and others. This article revisits the early years of the seminary to demonstrate the essential contribution of Miller to Old Princeton and highlights Miller's influential polemical writings.
