Summary:Perhaps for Asian and Pacific Catholics in the United States participating in their first national convocation no issue is more pressing than that of their future, about who they will be and what they will do, in the church as well as in the society. But to get a satisfactory answer to this all-important question it is necessary to know the historical backgrounds of Asian and Pacific Catholics in the United States We need to know where we came from as well as where we are now, before determining where we are going. In what follows I first present a bird's-eye view of our past and our present, and in the light of the data, offer some reflections on our future as Catholics in the American church and society.
