It has also found its place as a topic of academic study in American literature courses. Unfortunately, publicity in the media over recent cases of sexual abuse by clergy have caused renewed interest in Monk's tale. Furthermore, those who continue to assert that the contents of the book are true have an unwitting ally in the Library of Congress, which has cataloged Monk's book in the section dealing with the life and practices of women religious.
