Summary: | Founded in Canada by Rowland Bingham in 1893 as Sudan Interior Mission, today the Society for International Ministries (SIM) has 1,800 missionaries working in 43 countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Members of SIM come from 33 different countries and more than 50 denominations and represent nine national sending offices: Australia, Canada, England, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, and the United States. About 15,000 local churches, with 10 million members and adherents, have been founded by SIM. SIM missionaries are engaged in a variety of ministries such as evangelism, community service (hospitals, agriculture, microenterprise, and community development), theological education and leadership training (225 institutions), Bible translation, radio broadcasting, literature, and schools for missionary children (28).
