So, what does Europe, as the context for this great ecumenical event, hold for the prophetic witness of the ecumenical movement in our time, and what does it mean for a WCC assembly to “return” to Europe in this specific context? This article reflects on this European context for the assembly from a perspective of postcolonialism, understood not just as an abstract critical theory but as a critical commitment to the transformation of the current world (dis)order brought about by colonialism. The article goes on to discuss postcolonialism as an interpretive tool for developing a transformative ecumenical vision for the 21st century in the run-up to the WCC assembly in Karlsruhe and beyond. | ||
