Les spécialistes de l’orphisme se sont demandé à quel type de théogonie orphique les variantes pseudo-clémentines appartenaient. Les spécialistes des Pseudo-Clémentines, tout en se posant la même question, ont aussi cherché à identifier la source de cette théogonie et la place de cette source dans l’histoire rédactionnelle du roman. Peu de chercheurs, cependant, se sont intéressés à la fonction littéraire de la théogonie orphique dans les Pseudo-Clémentines et se sont demandé, autrement dit, ce que venait faire dans l’histoire de Clément et de sa conversion, une discussion sur Orphée et sa théogonie. Dans un premier temps, cet article résumera les deux variantes de la théogonie orphique des Pseudo-Clémentines et présentera l’état de la recherche sur la question. Dans la deuxième partie de cet article, on cherchera à définir le rôle de cette théogonie dans l’économie du roman. Ce sera l’occasion de rappeler l’importance de lire les Pseudo- Clémentines en tant qu’oeuvres littéraires. De là, il s’agira également de souligner la dimension polémique de la théogonie orphique pseudoclémentine dans un contexte de rivalité entre chrétiens et platoniciens au ive siècle. 
520 |a There is an orphic theogony in both versions of the pseudo-clementine novel, the Homilies and the Recognitions. Scholars doing research on orphism have tried to identify the type of theogony to which the pseudoclementine variants belonged. Pseudo-Clementine scholars, while asking the same question, were also interested in tracing the source behind the theogony and determining where this source fitted in the Pseudo-Clementines redactional history. However, few scholars showed interest in the literary function of the Pseudo-Clementines orphic theogony and asked themselves, in other words, what the story of Clement had anything to do with a discussion about Orpheus and his theogony. The first part of this paper will give an overview of the Pseudo- Clementines orphic theogony in its two variations, according to the current state of research. The second part will deal with the orphic theogony’s role in the novel’s structure. The importance of reading the Homilies and the Recognitions as literary works will be emphasized and the polemical dimension of their orphic theogony, in the 4th century context of rivalry between Christians and Platonists, will be pointed out at the same time.
