520 | |a The stately twelfth volume of the quadrennial Origen Congress proceedings attests the good health of Origen studies. Successor to Henri Crouzel as the doyen of these studies since his 2001 Pisa conference on ‘Origen and the Alexandrian Tradition’, Lorenzo Perrone rejoices that at last a conference is held where those Adamantine feet walked in ancient time. (Years ago a plan to meet in Alexandria fell flat due to local resistance.) Perrone regrets that he cannot depict ‘Jerusalem as Origen knew it’ and thus ‘repeat for Jerusalem what John McGuckin brilliantly did for Caesarea’ (p. 3). Jerusalem-based Joseph Patrich also remembers McGuckin’s study in Origeniana Quinta and fills out the picture with archeological detail including 34 illustrations, half of them in colour. | ||
