Description
Summary:Although the influence of Clement of Alexandria on Evagrius Ponticus has been pointed out by authors such as Antoine Guillaumont and Paul Géhin, this paper aims to consider the presence of Clement in the circle of disciples of Evagrius Ponticus and, in parallel, to reconsider the subjects in which it actually is. I take as a basic text for the analysis the Chapitres des disciples d’Évagre (Paris, Cerf, 2007), a long text that gathers a series of short chapters or kephalaia with teachings of Evagrius that were collected by his disciples, in which the Clementine influence can be observed. I focus on two important concepts for both authors: apatheia and spiritual friendship, which will allow, in my opinion, to relativise Clement’s influence in Evagrius and the cultured circles of the Desert Fathers.
