Cela est particulièrement visible dans la double interprétation qu'I-rénée propose d'une série de prophéties de l'Ancien Testament, rapportées tantôt au temps de l'Église, tantôt à la parousie. La perspective d'Irénée annonce Lumen Gentium et est fructueuse aujourd'hui pour penser une Église fraternelle et synodale, dont les membres sont appelés à croître dans la liberté sous la motion de l'Esprit. | ||

Irenaeus' eschatology is not therefore reducible to his sole millenarism, but is inaugurated by the Incarnation and the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Kingdom grows as a seed, through the tribulations of history. This is especially apparent in the dual interpretations that Irenaeus offers of a series of Old Testament prophecies which he relates, in some instances, to the "time of the Church" and, in other instances, to the Parousia. Irenaeus' perspective announces Lumen Gentium and is an especially fruitful contribution to reflection on a synodal and fraternal Church whose members are called to grow in freedom under the motion of the Holy Spirit. | ||
