We argue that Singapore Malay-Muslim immigrants have integrated into their host societies through a “reshaping of their mental lifeworld”, which constitutes a few elements. First, through viewing daily challenges and stresses in positive and optimistic terms. Second, they appreciated Australia as a space for growth, family life, and exploration. Third, they kept their minds open to any types of employment opportunities that come in their way in order to sustain their lives in a new country. Fourth, they used their faith as sources of strength in the face of challenges in obtaining jobs and overcoming other stresses. Finally, reshaping mental lifeworld involves imagining Australia as their newfound home, without totally negating Singapore as a site that their roots were initially planted. | ||
