The example of the Electorate of Brandenburg shows how Lutheranism met this challenge in the second half of the sixteenth century. Politics, medicine, and religion were equally important in countering the epidemic. The guiding principle of fighting the plague was twofold: to repent and to take the necessary countermeasures. Faith and reason were equally important, with religion framing politics and medicine. |
