| Zusammenfassung: | O presente artigo pretende ajudar os investigadores a reconstituírem a vida de um jesuíta. Apresentamos como "case study" a biografia de um dos mais destacados jesuítas do período da supressão da Companhia de Jesus, o P. Eusébio da Veiga (1718-1798), matemático e astrónomo e que foi o último professor da famosa Aula da Esfera do Colégio de Santo Antão, em Lisboa. Seguindo por ordem cronológica os momentos mais significativos da vida do cientista jesuíta, procuramos lançar as bases para uma narrativa prosopográfica. O percurso utilizado na reconstituição biográfica de Eusébio da Veiga é replicável para o de qualquer outro jesuíta e uma leitura atenta das informações contidas nas clássicas fontes jesuíticas (catálogos e cartas) revelam-se verdadeiramente surpreendentes pela detalhada informação que nos trazem. This article aims to help researchers to reconstruct the life of a Jesuit. We present, as a case study, the biography of one of the most distinguished Jesuits in the period of suppression of the Society of Jesus, Fr Eusébio da Veiga (1718-1798), mathematician and astronomer, who was the last teacher of the famous Aula da Esfera of College Santo Antão, in Lisbon. Following, in chronological order, the most significant moments of this Jesuit scientist’s life, we seek to lay the foundations for a prosopographic narrative. The route used in the biographical reconstitution of Eusébio da Veiga is replicable to any other Jesuit and a careful reading of the information contained in the classic Jesuit sources (catalogs and letters) are truly amazing for the detailed information they bring us. |
