| Summary: | O estudo visa introduzir a discussão sobre a pertinência de alguns conceitos que têm vindo a ser equacionados, nos últimos anos, no âmbito da História religiosa europeia dos séculos XVI a XVIII. A ideia da «disciplina» e do «disciplinamento social», tal como o paradigma da «confessionalização católica», são apresentados como instrumentos para a interpretação, no quadro da Península Ibérica, de uma história religiosa atenta aos factores políticos, sociais e culturais que envolviam as acções e instrumentos utilizados pelos actores e grupos religiosos da época, no intuito de «conduzir as condutas» das populações. À análise, realizada em função da produção historiográfica existente, de alguns dos dispositivos de coerção implementados pelas autoridades eclesiásticas, e que visavam a correcção dos comportamentos morais e sociais dos fiéis, seguem-se algumas reflexões emtorno dos instrumentos de persuasão e das múltiplas formas de transmissão da mensagem religiosa desenvolvidas pelos agentes eclesiásticos da época, a fim de facilitar a socialização ea interiorização dos modelos religiosos e de conduta propostos pelo discurso do catolicismo moderno. The goal of this paper is to introduce a debate about the fitness of some concepts that, in the last years, have been proposed in order to provide new perceptions on religious history of early-modern Europe. The categories of «discipline» and «social discipline», as well as the paradigm of «catholic confessionalization», are so presented as interpretative skills for a religious history of the IberianPeninsula, caring political, social and cultural features which contextualized the actions and mechanisms used by religious actors and groups in order to «guide the conducts» of ‘Ancien Régime’ people. Based on recent historiographical records, the analysis focus, firstly, on some instruments of control and punishment developed by ecclesiastical authorities, in order to correct moral and social behaviour, secondly, on mechanisms of persuasion and on the multiple ways of communication of the religious message used by the ecclesiastical agents, in order to assure socialization and interiorization of models and norms proposed by the discourse of early-modern catholicism.
