O texto tem muito a ver com o percurso humano, intelectual e espiritual que caracterizaram o arcebispo bracarense. Trata-se iminentemente dum escrito de natureza espiritual, onde referências e paradigmas reflectem a articulação exemplar prosseguida pelo arcebispo duma proximidade a Deus e aos muitos fiéis que pastoralmente dele dependiam. A experiência bracarense e a estada em Trento (1561-1563) levaram-no a acreditar ser possível uma reforma abrangente para toda a Igreja. A Stimulus Pastorum significou um gesto inovador e propósito ousado para o tempo. Está-se perante uma convicção, assumida por um arcebispo que, ao assumir mudança para si (reforma), profeticamente prenuncia a possibilidade de revigoramento espiritual do cristianismo naquela segunda metade do século XVI. Texto e contexto determinaram o percurso duma reforma possível que, a todos os títulos, não desmereceu doutros pastores (Carlos Borromeu emMilão e Paleotti em Bolonha) que pelo mundo católico de então implementavam práticas e intuições oportunamente relevadas e aprovadas em Trento. Stimulus Pastorum is one of the many works left by Frei Bartolomeu dos Mártires. The text is very focused in the personal, intelectual an spiritual route that marked the archbishop of Braga. It is mainly a writing of spiritual nature, where references and paradigms reflect the exemplary articulation pursued by the archbishop towards a proximity to God and to the many faithful that depended on him. The Braga experience and the stay in Trento (1561-1563) took him to believe being possible an embracing reform for all the Church. The Stimulus Pastorum meant an innovating and bold gesture for that time. It is a belief assumed by an archbishop who predicts the possibility of a spiritual revigoration of Christianity on the second half of the sixteen century. Text and context determined the path of a possible reform which did not demerit from other prelates (Carlos Borromeu in Milan and Paleotti in Bologne), through whom the catholic world of that time, implemented practices and intuitions that in due time were important and approved in Trento. |
