These sermons were written some time after the basilica crisis in 386, but are not about that crisis. The plea of David is shown to enhance the plea of Job. Where Job is seen as having been tempted in his body, David is proposed as having been tempted in his soul. Job’s example prepares for Christ and that of David prefigures and celebrates Christ.Cet article étudie la raison pour laquelle Ambroise a choisi de réunir le témoignage des deux figures bibliques de Job et de David, afin d’enseigner à l’Église de son temps l’importance de la vie du Christ. Quoique ces sermons aient été écrits après la crise des basiliques en 386, ils n’apportent rien à notre connaissance de cet épisode. Ambroise appelle ces deux figures bibliques à témoigner sur l’expérience de l’adversité et la valeur des richesses matérielles, mettant l’appel de David en contraste avec celui de Job. Job a été tenté dans son corps, David en son âme. Tandis que Job a préparé la venue du Christ, David l’a préfigurée et célébrée. | ||
