This article reassesses the purpose and function of the Collegium Germanicum by placing it within the broader context of Ignatius' overall vision of education. Despite its obvious special mission, the Collegium Germanicum was not merely a training camp for bishops and priests preparing to wage war against the heretics, but in many ways was similar to the other educational institutions of the Society of Jesus.
