Resumo:In this article the relation of religion-national security has been dealt with in the example of Turkic Republics of Central Asia. It has been tried to find the answer of whether religion in general, Islam in particular is a source of threat or safety for national security in the republics in question, especially in Uzbekistan. The claims in recent years increasingly strengtening in the World that the Islamic teachings became the source of inspiration, even the means of legitimacy have been discussed in the connection of Central Asian Turks who have just gained their . independence and severely needed the national security. Also today there has been a need, in Central Asia, of some junctions of religion like unification, legitimization andasecurity, as well as its being source of faith. What Islam has done or can do at this point, and the expectations of regional governments and seekers of government from Islam have been discussed. The Wahhabism and Hizb al-Tahrir which are completely ignorant of the historical, cultural, religious and political structure of nations living in the region have been analysed in terms of security. In addition, the views of Islam Karimov, leader of Uzbakistan, as a case showing the regional governments' perceptions of threat in general and of Islamic religious movements in particular have been dealt with
