Summary: | This paper examines the foundation and development of universities in Australia and New Zealand and demonstrates how these universities were established on a secular basis. Educators from other continents with a mainly Christian history are often surprised that there is so little evidence of Christian input into the university sector in Australasia. This paper addresses the development of theological education in Australia and helps to explain why churches and other Christian institutions contributed little to the development of Australasia's higher education. |
