Unfortunately, the “allegorists” often fail to make use of one of the most important sources of traditional Christian thought and symbolism, the liturgy. Yet, medieval writers greatly enriched their work by drawing upon the liturgy as a source and inspiration, a fact demonstrated by a passage such as the Good Samaritan episode in Passus XVII of Piers Plowman.
