Radiodiffusées et publiées sous la forme d’ouvrages, ces conférences nous donnent accès au cœur de la pensée de l’un des principaux chefs de file du protestantisme français au milieu du XXe siècle. De l’étude de ces textes ressortent nettement l’intention apologétique qui motivait ces prises de parole ainsi que leur audace œcuménique, à une époque où le dialogue avec le catholicisme-romain et le christianisme oriental ou orthodoxe était balbutiant. Marqué par son oncle Tommy Fallot comme par le Père Laberthonnière, Boegner appelle ses auditeurs et ses lecteurs, dans un contexte où les totalitarismes communiste et fasciste fascinaient un nombre croissant d’hommes et de femmes, à ne pas se laisser aveugler par ce type d’idolâtrie et à incarner les « solidarités voulues de Dieu ». | ||

These addresses, which were broadcast live on French radio and subsequently published as books, shed light on how one of the pillars of Reformed Protestantism in France thought about Christianity in the modern world. An analysis of these texts reveals a strong apologetic intention as well as a courageous ecumenical outlook, at a time when dialogue with Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodoxy was still in its infancy. The influence of Boegner’s uncle Tommy Fallot, as well as of Father Laberthonnière, is evident throughout, notably in his warnings his listeners and readers not to fall prey to the totalitarian ideologies of the day (i.e., communism, fascism), to resist all forms of idolatry, and to embody the “solidarities God asks of us.” | ||

Jahrhunderts. Aus dem Studium dieser Texte geht deutlich die apologetische Absicht dieser Reden sowie ihre ökumenischen Kühnheit hervor, in einer Zeit, in der der Dialog mit dem römischen Katholizismus und dem östlichen oder orthodoxen Christentum noch in den Kinderschuhen steckte. Von seinem Onkel Tommy Fallot wie von Pater Laberthonnière geprägt, fordert Boegner seine Zuhörer und seine Leser auf, sich im Kontext einer immer grösseren durch den kommunistischen und faschistischen Totalitarismus faszinierten Zahl von Männern und Frauen, nicht von dieser Art von Vergötzung blenden zu lassen sondern die „von Gott gewollte Solidarität“ zu verkörpern. | ||
