À travers une nouvelle analyse des documents de la procédure, on comprend mieux pourquoi Anne Robert, membre de la bourgeoisie montpelliéraine, accueillit le groupe chez elle, y subventionna la construction d’un lieu de culte extraordinaire et participa de plein gré aux cérémonies multipliantes, malgré de multiples mises en garde de la part de ses voisins et amis. L’examen détaillé du procès dévoile les préjugés et les hésitations des autorités, tant à Montpellier qu’à Versailles, devant un tout nouveau développement dans le protestantisme français, situé entre la guerre des Camisards et l’expansion de l’Église du Désert. | ||

Through a fresh analysis of the trial documents, it is easier to understand why Anne Robert, a member of Montpellier’s bourgeoisie, welcomed the group into her home, subsidized the construction of an extraordinary worship space and participated voluntarily in the sect’s ceremonies–despite multiple warnings from neighbors and friends. The detailed analysis of the trial reveals the prejudices and hesitations of the authorities, both in Montpellier and Versailles, when faced by a new development in French Protestantism, occurring between the Camisard War and the Desert Church’s expansion. | ||

Die genaue Untersuchung des Prozesses enthüllt Vorurteile und Unsicherheiten der staatlichen Autoritäten sowohl in Montpellier als auch in Versailles, angesichts dieser ganz neuen Entwicklung im französischen Protestantismus, die sich zwischen dem Camisardenkrieg und der Ausweitung der Kirche in der Wüste (Église du Désert) bewegte. | ||
