These phrases are termed here juxtapositions. The article examines the semantic relationship between construct states and juxtapositions with identical components, whether they constitute opposition, synonymy or complementary distribution. The corpus is based primarily on Web data and other contemporary sources, but a diachronic view is provided as well. The article describes a number of domains in which juxtapositions are prevalent. These include expression of quantities, as in recipes (giv’olim ’aspragus) (asparagus stalks); commercial catalogue item listings such as xultsa géver (a man’s shirt; a kind of shirt); and colloquial emotional expressions like ’aruxa zva’a (lit. a horror meal, ‘a dreadful meal’). Other domains are described as well.1
