Summary: | Two Aramaic inscriptions from Deir ʿAlla and a Hebrew inscription from Tel Kinrot provide evidence for a system of weights and measures "of the Gate" that existed in ancient Palestine. Along with the local systems ("of the Gate" and, similarly, "of the Temple") there were two additional systems in the ancient Near East, that "of the Country" and that "of the King." These systems emerged from and functioned in different levels of economic and political organization. |
