The use of gll in an Aramaic gloss to one of the Elamite fortification tablets from Persepolis is discussed against the linguistic and historical background of the Elamite text in question. Applying the results to the phrase in Ezra 5:8 and 6:4, it is concluded that a paraphrase such as "specially selected stone" comes closest to the required meaning.
