Summary: | The important fragmentary Nabataean inscription from the Temple of the Winged Lions at Petra was edited previously by Hammond, Johnson, and Jones (1986: 77-80). The present paper provides a corrected reading of the Nabataean text with a new translation and notes. A line drawing of the inscription and corrected chart of letters is also included. These improvements clarify our understanding of the text, which deals with the misappropriation of temple income and the formal allotment of various donations to temple priests. The inscription also provides a partial list of items that constituted the temple income. |
