Attracted since childhood by Franciscan spirituality, S. Weil travelled to Italy in 1937 («the beauty of the world») and discovered in particular the art of Giotto. This art, as any first-rate art, is an art of «composition on several levels» and which hinges on the tension between «emptiness» and «forms», immobility and action, gravity and grace, finite and the infinite. This gives rise to the thought of a double origin of the work of art, both a cosmic one (Heidegger) and a metaphysical and theological one, since the source of world's beauty is the Logos incarnate in matter, a Beauty that is «the perfect image» of the Father. S. Weil enables a dialogue between Plato and Heidegger, Greek wisdom and the Trinitarian ontology of Thomas Aquinas or Balthasar. | ||
