In discerning such a conflict, Benedict echoes the apocalyptic theme of God's people being caught up in conflict with antagonizing forces. Within this apocalyptic setting, atheist humanism comes to light as instantiating the eschatological false prophet: the fraud, who claims to offer truth, but ends up leading God's people astray and towards destruction. Like the Book of Revelation, Benedict prescribes prophetic, Christoform witness (charity-in-truth) as the appropriate response in this conflict. Benedetto XVI assume in modo sottile e critico l'apocalittica biblica con lo scopo d'inquadrare il conflitto odierno tra umanesimo cristiano e umanesimo ateo (nel senso di H. de Lubac). Nel discernere i termini del conflitto, egli ricupera il tema apocalittico del popolo di Dio, mostrando come esso è impegnato in una lotta contro forze antagoniste. All'interno di questo scenario apocalittico, l'umanesimo ateo appare come un esempio di ciò che è il falso profeta escatologico: la menzogna di chi si presenta sotto il manto della verità e proprio per questo modo finisce col fuorviare il popolo di Dio distruggendolo. Sulla scia del Libro della Rivelazione, Benedetto vede nel testimone profetico, colui che ha la forma cristica della carità nella verità, la risposta appropriata a questo conflitto. | ||
