520 |a In this article, we investigated St. Robert Bellarmine's understanding of man's natural desire to see God in his commentary on St. Thomas' Summa theologiae. Our investigation centered on the question how Bellarmine regarded the beatific vision as the supernatural beatitude while maintaining that the divine vision is human beings' natural end. In addition, we tried to illustrate the interaction between the young Bellarmine's thought and the theological tradition both prior to and in the sixteenth century.
